So You Want to Be Sports Agent

Allen S. Furst has spent over 30 years working in sports and entertainment. From his early days as president of ProServ Financial Services, Inc., he represented such sports luminaries as Michael Jordan, Arthur Ashe, Patrick Ewing and many others.

Today, Allen blends his sports agency business with event planning and marketing. Allen is considered a leading authority on sports business and corporate events. We get Allen’s thoughts on the business of sports marketing. Topics include a poignant discussion of Mr. Ashe and his struggle with reveling his infection with AIDS, being in MJ’s entourage in the early days, and the community involvement that makes Dwyane Wade and Alonzo Mourning special members of the Miami community.

Legislative Update: What Happened in Tallahassee

Ronald L. Book is a specialist in governmental affairs and administrative law, with a Juris Doctorate degree from Tulane University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Florida International University. He is a former director and special counsel of Florida Governor Bob Graham’s Cabinet. He is one of the state’s most influential government affairs professionals. Over the past few years, Mr. Book has raised over $25 million for various causes and candidates. We discuss the state of the state and what happened this session in Tallahassee, including a discussion of the Miami Dolphins failed bid for funds to renovate Sun Life Stadium.

Work Out Like a Pro

Terek Maddox, B.S., exercise physiology, is an Exercise Science/Strength and Conditioning Coach for his firm ESPA Training, Inc., in South Florida. After a stint with the New York Jets‘ strength and conditioning department, Terek returned to Miami to head his own sports-training company for professional athletes in the South Florida area.

He currently works with athletes in the NBA and NFL, in addition to high-school and collegiate level athletes training to get to the next level of their specific sport. Terek is a member of The National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification. We are joined by one of his clients, NFL veteran Kevin Smith.
