We’re all looking for ways to save money on energy. That’s true whether you’re a renter, a homeowner, or a commercial property owner with multiple locations and thousands of units.
So it was really exciting to talk with two key executives from Magnum Energy Solutions, an up-and-coming supplier of wireless energy management solutions.
“We are out there helping clients minimize that big, fat line item we call electricity,” said Matt Gold, who is SVP for the company’s Restaurant and Hospitality Group in Miami.
Owner and managing member Don Weidenfeld bought the Ohio-based company last year because he saw its potential to become an industry leader. Magnum Energy was recently awarded three different university bids, Weidenfeld said.
“Our products are all wireless and battery-less. We have light- and energy-harvesting chips,” he said. “We have orders coming across the board. Our average energy savings is running between 25 and 40 percent.”
Weidenfeld said Magnum Energy’s two biggest markets are hotels and dorms, but apartments, condos, retail strip centers, office buildings, and convenience stores can also benefit from the technology. The company is working on installations for 1,100 Subway restaurants and has just signed a deal with Starwood Hotels. Wyndham Worldwide just gave them an order for 22,000 timeshares.
“Every piece of real estate in the country has a thermostat,” he said. “We control the thermostat through our proprietary sensors – whether it’s a door sensor, window sensor or occupancy sensor.”
All of this, by the way, can be controlled from a central location thanks to the system’s software capabilities.
This impressive company has hired 15 people this summer alone, and all of the products – even the chips – are made right here in the USA.
