When you really think about it, as time passes we own less and less of the things we use.
Instead, we buy the right to live in an apartment, use mass transit, even listen to music online.
And just like I never thought I’d see the day when CDs became obsolete, my most recent Fried On Business guest foresees a day when you’ll order up your wheels just like you queue up a song.
“Subscription has really changed our lives across the board. Having the ability to watch what you want to watch when you want to watch it. Or listen to it. Then there’s Airbnb with homes,” said Vincent Iafano, Director of Business Development for FlexWheels in Davie.
“But with cars, we’re stuck. You purchase long-term. You lease long-term. Or you rent, and you’re spending all your money.”
With FlexWheels’ month-to-month subscription, however, you use the app on your smartphone to schedule use of a vehicle. When you want it. Where you want it.
You don’t even have to pick it up, Iafano said. FlexWheels will deliver the car to you.
Now, we’re not talking about driving a Yugo here. These are top-notch cars from two available FlexWheels garages – the Adventurer tier and the Premier tier.
These are stocked with vehicles like the Jaguar F Pace, Mustang Shelby Convertible, Range Rover Sport (supercharged, by the way), BMW M4, Cadillac Escalade ESV and more.
“We want to give our subscribers their dream garage,” he said.
I love this concept. There are weeks, depending on what I’m doing, when I really could use three different vehicles for three different purposes.
Can you imagine the cost? That’s just not happening.
FlexWheels is giving a special deal to the first 50 “founding members” in the Adventurer tier. For $1,599 a month, you’ll get free maintenance, roadside assistance, unlimited miles and as many flips into and out of vehicles as you like.
By the way, if you see something you like in a higher tier and want to drive it for a day, you can pay a surcharge and then simply drop back to your initial subscription when you’re done, Iafano said.
“There’s a vision of revolutionizing this automotive industry. You see subscriptions everywhere else. Vehicles is the only area that hasn’t changed since Day One,” he said.
“We teamed up with a group in Atlanta that built the app, and we partnered with them to bring it to South Florida.”
FlexWheels’ official launch is during the second week of September, followed by a special event for founding members.
