Buying Commercial Real Estate at Auction
In the current cycle, many institutions sold real estate owned (REO) at auction. We will discuss this phenomenon with Joe Cuomo – SVP and co-head of business development at Auction.com. Cuomo is responsible for overseeing the business development and sales efforts with financial institutions and commercial real estate owners across the globe.
In 2012, Auction.com’s Commercial Real Estate Group sold more than $3.6 billion of commercial properties and notes.
We will be joined by Charles P. Toppino – founder and president of Oak Pass Capital Management. His experience includes acquisitions, asset management, sourcing equity and debt financing and serving as an advisor to buyers and sellers of assets in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Toppino’s focus is on investing in high-yielding commercial mortgage and real estate assets with institutional investors and private equity capital partners.
During the last real estate recession, Toppino was a principal and founding partner of Secured Capital Corp., a real estate investment bank that focused on advising the commercial real estate sector. In 2006, Secured Capital merged with Eastdil Realty, a real estate investment banking and brokerage company and wholly owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo. He served as a member of the management committee and head of its secondary mortgage sales business until he retired from Eastdil Secured in 2008. Toppino buys and sells notes and mortgages and is an active participant in the auction marketplace.

How To Fuel Your Workouts
Terek Maddox, B.S., exercise physiology, is an exercise science/strength and conditioning coach for his firm ESPA Training, Inc., in South Florida. After a stint with the New York Jets‘ strength and conditioning department, Terek returned to Miami to head his own sports-training company for professional athletes in the South Florida area.
He currently works with athletes in the NBA and NFL, in addition to high school and collegiate-level athletes training to get to the next level of their specific sport. Terek is a member of The National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification.
