John Mahoney (@socialmedia305) loves social media for business. He’s the official social media consultant to the Fried On Business show, and his advice has been invaluable in helping me build the brand.
So it was a real treat to have him on the show recently, and one of the key things we discussed was Twitter analytics.
What? You didn’t know Twitter provides analytics? Neither did I until recently, but Mahoney says it’s amazing.
Go to analytics.twitter.com and find one of your recent tweets. The analytics will show you things like how many people have seen the tweet, how many have clicked the link, and more. You can do this on your mobile phone via the Twitter app.
It think it’s amazing, too. Now I can actually show people hard data on who’s listening to the show and participating in our community.
By the way, I’ve also started buying Facebook ads, and it’s paying off in spades. It finally dawned on me that if I buy into their business model, they’ll help me grow my business.
Mahoney says the top three social media for business platforms are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And how they’re used varies by client.
For example, a fashion industry client is going to gravitate toward Instagram, he said, while mom-and-pop businesses and large corporations are going to want Facebook.
“Facebook runs off what’s called an algorithm, and that algorithm runs off what you’re engaging with,” he said.
“I deal with a lot of business pages. One thing I’ve noticed – if you’re not a major brand and if you’re not paying Facebook, you’re not getting the views and the analytics that you’ll see from Instagram and Twitter.”
As you can see, John Mahoney is the man when it comes to social media for business. You can reach him just about anywhere online using @socialmedia305 or you can call 305-710-2273.
