Here at Fried On Business, we are privileged to support Lauren Book and her organization, Lauren’s Kids, as they get ready for a new year of activity to promote awareness of childhood sexual abuse and how to prevent it.
In fact, they’ve already hit the ground running with Lauren recently named a recipient in L’Oréal Paris’ Eighth Annual Women of Worth campaign. Lauren received more than 100,000 votes and was awarded $35,000 to help support her organization.
That money’s going to help fund a busy year of events that includes:
– The Bloomingdale’s 2014 Florida Charity Day to benefit Lauren’s Kids,
– The Reid and Fiorentino Celebrity Golf Tournament and Dinner,
– The Walk in My Shoes 2014 awareness trek from Key West to Tallahassee,
– and, of course, the organization’s education curriculum for children at various levels of education and development.
“At the end of the day, I want survivors to know that it is okay to tell. That you can become thriving survivors if you get the help and recovery you need,” Lauren told us in a recent interview.
Open and honest communication is the key to prevention, Lauren says. That’s why parents need to engage with their children about everything in their lives – not just the topic of sexual abuse.
“They need to know that you’re a safe person that they can talk to about anything,” she says.
Lauren’s Kids provides referrals to free counseling services throughout Florida and maintains a list of frequently asked questions and resources, including warning signs.
