Lauren Book is a good friend and a personal hero. She has turned a horrible experience – childhood sexual abuse – into a blessing for kids and parents around the world as she seeks to educate them about sexual abuse topics.
And the founder of Lauren’s Kids has been on a whirlwind tour lately, one that started in South Africa with a presentation at the Crime Stoppers International Conference.
After the meeting, she and her team were able to spend several days touring the South African townships presenting her Safer, Smarter Kids curriculum to children, teachers and the country’s police force.
She was also invited to speak at the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation Youth Centre in Cape Town.
On a recent show, Book said the trip “was a life-changing experience – one that I will never, ever forget – and an incredible journey.”
From South Africa, it was back to South Florida to accept an award as the 2014 Michael Shores Citizen of the Year from the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club.
Then it was off to New York to meet with snack manufacturer KIND and become a KIND Ambassador for one of their KIND Causes campaigns.
Then it was back to South Florida to spread the message about child safety during Halloween.
It makes me tired just thinking about it, but Lauren Book is tireless in her efforts to help stop childhood sexual abuse.
By the way, she reminded us, if you suspect child abuse, you can report it through the Florida Department of Children and Families at 1-800-96-ABUSE or on the DCF web site.
