My readers and listeners have been following the story of my wife, Vivian, and I as we have struggled with her end-stage kidney disease and our need for a kidney donor.
And, most recently, I told you about G-d’s impact in helping us find a potential donor on Twitter.
Well, that young lady and her family came into town from Austin, Texas, and we’ve just learned that she’s a match!
We’re cautiously optimistic now. First, we need to get confirmation on her suitability as a donor, then we have to coordinate all of the details surrounding the operation.
That said, this beautiful person has given me and Vivian more hope than we’ve had in a long time. She is an absolute gift from Heaven. She is a true American hero. Her husband is strong and supportive, and their kids are just awesome.
Frankly, she and my wife are two of the most remarkable women I have ever met. Needless to say, they bonded almost instantly.
A short anecdote to tell you how magical this is. When I went to pick up the donor at the airport, my view of the gate they would exit baggage claim from was blocked by an SUV with the license plate – THNX GD. When the vehicle moved – I saw the donor and her family for the first time.
I have been overwhelmed and truly humbled by this experience. It has made me forever aware that there are so many more people like my wife out there – people who need the gift of life that only a living donor can provide.
We need more people like this wonderful family. Maybe you’re one of those people. If you’re motivated, don’t wait. Call the Miami Transplant Institute or any hospital near you. Find out where you can volunteer to be a living donor and give the gift of life itself.
And if you want to keep up with our situation, follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin. Thank you, dear readers and listeners, for all of the kind words and faithful prayers.
We love you all.
