Episode 440: 10-26-17
Art and the Wynwood District
David Lombardi is Founder of Lombardi Properties, Miami, FL. Lombardi founded Lombardi Properties in 1999. In 2000, he began investing in Wynwood. Lombardi had a vision of what Wynwood could be: A “living/working artistic community” in the city of Miami.
In 2002, Lombardi began a series of art happenings labeled “Roving Fridays in Wynwood” where the work of many local artists was shown and an open bar, a live band and a fashion show by a local young designer would entertain the crowds.
The idea was to promote any vacant spaces and get people from the residential areas comfortable with coming to Wynwood at night. It was the impetus of what is now “The Second Saturdays,” which is the monthly gallery walk that regularly draws 15,000 people.
Some of Lombardi’s art focused real estate projects include:
– Terminal Lofts: Home to numerous artists and creative companies.
– The 36-unit Wynwood Lofts, specially designed for creatives and artists.
– Museo Vault: Designed and built ground-up to store and protect valuable art.
– Various commercial buildings that combine artist studios with other commercial uses.
Jim and David discuss the impact art has had on the property values in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District.
