We at Fried On Business just marked our sixth anniversary being on the air, and some very special people came on the show to help us celebrate the achievement.
One of our favorite people, Lauren Book, had some excellent advice for keeping kids safe as they return to school. You might remember that she is founder and CEO of Lauren’s Kids, which works to teach children and parents alike how to prevent child sexual abuse.
First, make sure your kids memorize their home address and phone number, and have that info on a laminated note card in their backpack.
Second, develop a secret password for your family so that no one can pick them up from school – claiming to have parental authorization – without using the password.
Third, keep an eye on their grades and behavior. If you start seeing anything abnormal, it may be time to start asking questions of them and their teachers.

Next, our friend Thomas Handler of Handler Thayer, LLP, had some insight into the newest family wealth management trends and challenges for their investments.
There have been some huge movements on the investment side, he said, due to recent market volatility and geopolitical developments like war and famine.
Also, family offices have become increasingly popular here and abroad as a means of managing family wealth and legal matters like a business.
Then there’s the growing regulatory burden being dumped on financial institutions and family businesses globally.
Handler is one of the smartest guys I know and an expert in advanced financial and legal planning. Click here to listen to the full interview.
Finally, my buddy Terek Maddox teamed up with UHealth specialist Dr. Michael Benatar to talk about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Myasthenia Gravis (MG), two dreadful diseases.
Benatar mentioned that ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, seems to be genetic in 10% to 15% of cases, so gene therapy is being explored as an avenue toward treatment and cure.
Maddox talked about his time as the primary caregiver for his uncle while his uncle fought ALS. He also discussed his involvement in the Walk To Defeat ALS on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Museum Park in Miami.
