John Mahoney of SocialMedia305 is a social media master. We here at Fried On Business turn to him all the time for advice on using social media effectively, and his recent visit to the show was as insightful as ever.
Mahoney (@socialmedia305) introduced us to a really cool app called Buffer. He said this one’s great for people who are running their own social media campaigns but don’t have the time to be as active as they’d like to be.
“We all know there’s a real world out there. You have to do your job, but you also want to support your community and market your brand and create activity,” he said.
Buffer plugs right into your web browser and lets you easily share whatever you’re reading to the major social media networks.
Cool, right? But wait, there’s more: Buffer will automatically share the post when your network is most active.
“It keeps the account holder very active, and it allows you to stick to your business,” Mahoney said.
You can search the Chrome extension or Firefox plugin for Buffer – or set things up at bufferapp.com.
I use Buffer all the time and, personally, I love this thing.
Now, you can select your platform of choice on Buffer, but Mahoney reminded us that the different social media networks are, in fact, different audiences. Using Buffer, he said, you can tailor your content to the audience – sharing what is most appropriate.
Mahoney said he uses the Buffer app himself for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, but for Facebook he recommends also staying engaged directly. You can manage your Facebook page from your phone via the Facebook app, he said, so there’s really no excuse for letting your presence lapse.
Make sure you log in and use your business identity before posting, he said. In other words, use Facebook as FriedOnBusiness rather than as Jim Fried. And using the Facebook Pages Manager app will get you more likes and views, he said.
