#WhyIWalk: Protecting Our Kids

Ronald L. Book is a specialist in government affairs and administration law, with a Juris Doctorate degree from Tulane University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Florida International University. An active participant in South Florida’s professional arena, Book is a trustee of the Council of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and sits on the Legislative Affairs and State Affairs committees. In addition to serving more than 20 community organizations, Book is a founding member of Lauren’s Kids. Mr. Book currently operates his own lobbying practice in Aventura and Tallahassee.

Ron’s daughter – Lauren – was a victim and is now a survivor of child sexual abuse at the hands of her nanny. Because of her experience, Ms. Book founded Lauren’s Kids along with her father in 2007. Under Ms. Book’s leadership, the non-profit organization works to prevent sexual abuse and help survivors heal.

Lauren Book was born and raised in South Florida where she currently resides and directs Lauren’s Kids. 2014 marks the fifth anniversary of Lauren Book’s 1,500-mile Walk in My Shoes walk across the state of Florida.

Over the past five years, tens of thousands of Floridians, including thousands of survivors, have come out to walk with Lauren and show their support for her mission to end child sexual abuse and help survivors heal.

Walk in My Shoes has given voice to an experience shared by 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys in the U.S., and Lauren’s statewide legislative advocacy has helped pass more than a dozen Florida laws over the past five years.

Lauren Book has been recognized for her outstanding contribution to education relating to sexual abuse and for her work within the community.

We discuss #WhyIWalk with Lauren on her annual walk, which starts in Key West this week.

UF Real Estate Update

Jim attended the Annual UF Trends and Strategies Conference last week

He will tell you what he learned at the conference and he will speak with one of the Program's students:

Emme Benoit about why she choose the UF MSRE program and what she is learning.

*************************************

About Our Guests:

Emme Gisele-Louise Benoit

Emme graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Supply Chain Management, but deep down, always knew real estate was the path she was meant to take. So, she followed her heart and pursued that passion. Now, she is a Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) student at the University of Florida, a journey that was largely inspired by her father's successful career as a commercial real estate developer.
Emme’s fascination with real estate isn't just about the industry itself; it's about the impact it has on communities and landscapes. She loves seeing how built spaces come to life, transforming areas and changing the skyline. It's about bringing a vision to reality and witnessing the profound changes that follow. This passion drives her every day and fuels her dedication to the field.
Currently, she serve as the Co-President of the UF Women's Real Estate Society and as an MSRE ambassador. These roles have given her the incredible opportunity to lead, inspire, and connect with like-minded individuals who are as passionate about real estate as she is. Through these positions, she aims to empower women in the industry, foster a supportive community, and advocate for sustainable and innovative practices in real estate.
Emme’s journey in real estate is a testament to following one's passion and making a tangible impact on the world. She is committed to learning, growing, and contributing to the industry in meaningful ways, and she is excited to see where this path will take her.
