UHealth researchers make prostate treatment breakthrough

SHARE

Okay, guys! It’s time to have “the talk.”

No, not THAT talk. You already know all about that.

This talk is about what you’ve probably been ignoring for a long time. You know:

– Feeling like you have to go all the time.

– Waking up in the middle of the night to go.

– Your sex life maybe not being up to par.

These are all symptoms of an enlarged prostate or BPH. And I don’t blame you for ignoring it, because we all know the solutions can be painful and risky.

That is, until now. An interventional radiologist at UHealth, Dr. Shivank Bhatia, M.D., is leading a team that has made a breakthrough discovery in BPH treatment. He came on the show to tell us about it.

It’s called prostate embolization, and it involves new techniques to reduce the blood supply to the prostate, causing it to shrink 30% to 40% and providing significant relief of symptoms in two to three weeks.

This prostate treatment breakthrough is an outpatient procedure, and it has none of the side effects usually associated with major prostate surgery.

UHealth’s University of Miami Central Campus is one of the leading sites for an FDA clinical trial of the procedure, and researchers are currently enrolling patients.

The only other site in Florida is in Tampa.

Hey, BPH is a very common condition among men over age 50 and early treatment gives you the best chance for a favorable outcome. So if you’re interested in enrolling in the UHealth trials, call 305-243-3404.

And here’s a good article about this promising new treatment – http://med.miami.edu/news/miller-school-researchers-to-study-new-treatment-for-bph.

About Our Guests:

Emme Gisele-Louise Benoit

Emme graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Supply Chain Management, but deep down, always knew real estate was the path she was meant to take. So, she followed her heart and pursued that passion. Now, she is a Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) student at the University of Florida, a journey that was largely inspired by her father's successful career as a commercial real estate developer.
Emme’s fascination with real estate isn't just about the industry itself; it's about the impact it has on communities and landscapes. She loves seeing how built spaces come to life, transforming areas and changing the skyline. It's about bringing a vision to reality and witnessing the profound changes that follow. This passion drives her every day and fuels her dedication to the field.
Currently, she serve as the Co-President of the UF Women's Real Estate Society and as an MSRE ambassador. These roles have given her the incredible opportunity to lead, inspire, and connect with like-minded individuals who are as passionate about real estate as she is. Through these positions, she aims to empower women in the industry, foster a supportive community, and advocate for sustainable and innovative practices in real estate.
Emme’s journey in real estate is a testament to following one's passion and making a tangible impact on the world. She is committed to learning, growing, and contributing to the industry in meaningful ways, and she is excited to see where this path will take her.
