Some of you who are following me on Facebook are well aware of the struggles my wife Vivian and I have had as she battles end-stage kidney disease.
Thinking about everything we’ve been through makes me want to talk about a difficult subject. That is, we should all seriously consider giving the gift of life.
What is the gift of life? Simply put, it’s organ donation.
Listen, somebody out there needs a transplant. The brilliant people at UHealth and other places have the technology and experience to make these transplants work. And when they’re done, the recipient’s life changes for the better immediately.
Organ donation really is the gift of life.
So, what is life like without the transplant? Well, it’s tough. In Vivian’s case, dialysis is often painful and exhausting. But she’s tough, too. Tough as nails. And she drives herself home from every appointment.
She is my strength.
Even if you’re on the fence about registering as an organ donor, go and get tested. It’s important. There are people out there, loving and kind people, who need what only you can give.
And if you’re in the position of caring for someone who needs a transplant, I want to say, “Well done!” I know it’s not easy, believe me, but stay strong for them and do whatever you can to lighten their burden.
Even the little things, that you may think are insignificant, will mean the world to them.
Hey, I know all of this is serious business. It’s overwhelming. But if you’ve got questions, the folks at UHealth are a great place to start getting some answers.
Or just email me at jim@friedonbusiness.com. I’d be happy to do whatever I can.
