During one of my recent pilgrimages to the University of Florida, my alma mater, I had a chance to interview UF real estate undergraduate professor Kent Malone.
Considered a rock star in the business school, he took some time on-air to talk about new developments in the University of Florida real estate program.
First, Malone announced a ribbon-cutting for a new, state-of-the-art location for the Bergstrom Center for Real Estate Studies.
A key element is space in Bryan Hall for undergrad and graduate real estate students to meet for activities and events.
This building was constructed in 1914 and once served as the university’s law school.
Malone said real estate is a great pursuit for young scholars because it involves so many different disciplines. It’s far more than just brokerage, he said, although that’s certainly a major part of the industry.
For my part, I call myself a “real estate businessperson” because I do a lot of different things in the course of doing business. That’s one of the things that attracted me to this career in the first place.
Undergraduate enrollments in the real estate program have doubled in the last year, Malone said, and the online program is gaining momentum.
“No matter where you are on planet Earth, if you have access to an Internet connection, you can take courses and earn a degree from the University of Florida,” he said.
Malone added that there is a lot of crossover between UF’s real estate certification and degree programs, such that each can contribute toward advancement in the other.
Malone credits Dr. John Kraft, dean of the Warrington College of Business at UF, with having the vision to grow the school’s real estate offerings. You can learn more about UF’s real estate program by visiting http://realestate.ufl.edu.
