I’ve got a lot on my plate these days. There’s my commercial real estate work, family office consulting and, of course, the Fried On Business radio show.
But, by far, the most important thing I’ve got going on these days is my wife Vivian’s search for a kidney transplant donor.
You’ve heard a lot about it from me lately, but what you haven’t heard is how social media is helping us be successful.
You see, it was around Christmastime that I realized some people might be more disposed toward giving the gift of life for the holidays. So I started spending some money on Facebook ads – and generating some legitimate leads.
Well, that was the easy part. Turns out that most of the potential donors weren’t qualified for some reason. Some had pre-existing medical conditions. Others were too old or not compatible with my wife.
I decided to focus the ads on Dade County and target them toward people with a spiritual bent. Then I ran them on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
I got more leads. None were qualified, but at least I knew the strategy was working.
So I tried the campaign on LinkedIn. I couldn’t believe it. People from all over the country were sharing our story, and my social media metrics exploded.
That was great, but I still wasn’t finding qualified potential donors. It started to get discouraging, so I decided to change it up and try a Twitter blast off-hours, basically at 2 or 3 in the morning Miami time.
Well, it happened! My Twitter post reached a wonderful woman from out of state, and by God’s grace she contacted me. She’s the perfect donor. She’s O Positive, so she can give to just about anybody, but she decided to work with my wife.
They’ve become soul mates. God put them together. He used the power of social media to reach out and bless us in an indescribable way.
Here’s the message: If you need something, and you’re true, and you don’t stop believing, everything will be okay.
I want to send blessings out to all of the people who have been offering to donate. Their spirits are pure. They haven’t been able to give physically, but the spiritual blessing and encouragement they’ve given have been just as important.
And to the young lady who’s stepping up and giving the gift of life itself, I just have to say there’s a special place for her here on Earth and in the life to come.
We are not there yet. Many things can still derail these two people on their journey, but we are getting closer! STAY TUNED!
