I just finished editing the photos from the Fried on Business event at the Richmond – Perrine Optimist Club last Thursday, July 18. NFL player Kevin Smith joined Lauren Book and Terek Maddox, Social Media 305 and the rest of the Fried on Business team as we had some high-energy fun with over 200 kids ages 6 to 17.
Kevin talked about what it takes to get to the NFL and how every child has what it takes to be a success.
Terek got the kids moving and having some fun. We broke the children into three age groups and then Lauren discussed her story and how to avoid sexual predators and sexually compromising situations.
The smallest kids did role plays, the middle group listened and got the message, the oldest group asked some stunning questions and when we discussed how it was OK to tell. One child responded his parents told him snitches get killed. WOW!
At the end of the program there were hugs for everyone and lots of thankful kids. The parents were grateful for the insights as well. Overall, it was a positive energy bonanza. They invited us back to give an after-school program in the fall.
My favorite moment was when we were changing from the youngest group, the middle school kids. And as the music cranked up, I danced out of the main gym like the Pied Piper with 50 small kids in tow as we headed over to the snacks in one big conga line – AMAZING and totally REWARDING!
Publix provided the kids with snacks. It was a wonderful event. I encourage everyone to get out there and help our at-risk kids!
