I’m still full of ideas about the South Florida submarkets and which of them have the potential to become the next Brickell Avenue. Today, let’s talk about Downtown Fort Lauderdale and Doral.
I’ve been involved in a bunch of projects in Downtown Fort Lauderdale including the Publix supermarket, which has been the catalyst for all of the residential development in the area.
But there’s a lot more coming. Related Group, Prime Group, Morgan Group – they’re all doing great deals in Downtown Fort Lauderdale.
With the job growth in Fort Lauderdale and the proximity to luxury housing, there’s a lot of good fundamentals there. The CDB has great access to Fort Lauderdale International Airport and Palm Beach. And let’s not forget about the beaches, which aren’t far at all from the business district. I know a lot of people who have made a lot of money on beach development in the area.
And then there’s Doral, which is obviously more suburban than Fort Lauderdale but also holds some Brickell in its genes. The Miami International Airport area, which includes Doral, has more jobs than the Miami CBD.
Doral is a great place for self-contained, walkable developments like Codina Partner’s Downtown Doral project.
