Earth Diet author credits foods with healing, restoration

We have always been major proponents of health and wellness at Fried On Business. I’ve had lots of great interviews with many of the world’s leading health experts.

But my focus on health and wellness became even more acute with the onset of my wife Vivian’s kidney disease. It was a huge reminder to us both about the need to preserve and protect our bodies and minds.

For her, it’s about staying strong until she can find a kidney donor. For me, it’s about being there for her.

And for our most-recent guest, it’s about un-doing the damage caused by 5 years of binging on junk foods.

You’d never know it today, but Liana Werner-Gray was once two sizes larger, had skin conditions and had serious digestive issues. She hit rock bottom when, at age 21, she found herself in the hospital with a tumor the size of a golf ball in her lymphatic system.

“I just had a conversation with myself: I’m 21. This is far too young to be feeling like crap, and surely I do not have to live like this for the rest of my life,” she said.

“So I said, ‘How can I have chocolate?’ or ‘How can I have cheesecake, cookies, burgers – all my favorite foods?’ So I just started making them using really clean ingredients. So it wasn’t poisoning my body but nourishing my body instead. That’s how I transformed.”

She resolved to begin preparing her own foods using organic, unprocessed ingredients. She started reaching out to the world through her blog – chronicling her quest to restore her health.

Having a few readers, she figured, would help to hold her accountable.

Well, it caught on through word of mouth. It turns out that many, many people struggle with an addiction to junk foods – and the culmination of her work has been a website and book, both titled The Earth Diet.

“I knew that I had ruined my body. I knew that I had done a lot of damage to my health. I knew that I could undo it, so I just started nourishing my body properly,” she said.

“That became my goal. My goal was I wanted to have consistent health for the rest of my life. So I wanted to restore love and proper nourishment into my body.

“Everyone who is addicted or has an eating disorder can absolutely break out of it. That’s the message.”

Liana Werner-Gray has become a real thought-leader in the area of health and nutrition and is now affiliated with the well-known Hay House Publishing.

“The cool thing is when you nourish your body every single day properly, then you can have your cake and eat it, too. You can eat all of these amazing, delicious foods, but they’re real foods,” she said.

For example, a glass of lemon water every morning will alkalize your body and give it a lot of vitamin C, she said. Her book includes recipes using gluten-free pasta, organic chocolate, and even chicken nuggets.

This was a fantastic conversation, so click here to listen to the full interview with The Earth Diet author Liana Werner-Gray. You might even catch the secret recipe that I use with my Vitamix blender.

About Our Guests:

Emme Gisele-Louise Benoit

Emme graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Supply Chain Management, but deep down, always knew real estate was the path she was meant to take. So, she followed her heart and pursued that passion. Now, she is a Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) student at the University of Florida, a journey that was largely inspired by her father's successful career as a commercial real estate developer.
Emme’s fascination with real estate isn't just about the industry itself; it's about the impact it has on communities and landscapes. She loves seeing how built spaces come to life, transforming areas and changing the skyline. It's about bringing a vision to reality and witnessing the profound changes that follow. This passion drives her every day and fuels her dedication to the field.
Currently, she serve as the Co-President of the UF Women's Real Estate Society and as an MSRE ambassador. These roles have given her the incredible opportunity to lead, inspire, and connect with like-minded individuals who are as passionate about real estate as she is. Through these positions, she aims to empower women in the industry, foster a supportive community, and advocate for sustainable and innovative practices in real estate.
Emme’s journey in real estate is a testament to following one's passion and making a tangible impact on the world. She is committed to learning, growing, and contributing to the industry in meaningful ways, and she is excited to see where this path will take her.
